Petitions for spring election are available

Daily News

Nominating petition forms for the April 17 school board election in Robinson Community Unit School District No. 2 are available. Forms may be picked up in the office of the School Board Secretary at 208 S. Jackson, Robinson, on any business day between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

A school board candidate's petition must be filed in the same office no earlier than 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, and no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5. Candidates' names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received in the secretary's office.

Four seats on the seven-member board of education will be filled at the election. Candidate elected will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2011.

To be eligible to serve, a school board member must be, on the date of election, a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, a registered voter and a resident of Illinois and the school district in which they're running for at least one year immediately preceding the election.

Unit 2 board members whose term expires in 2007 are Von Meeks, Ron Legg, Gail Sandiford and Larry Keeler, who has completed the term of the late Dr. Michael Elliott. For more information, contact school board secretary Debbie Pethtel, 544-7511, extension 12.

Petitions for other local school boards - Hutsonville Unit 1, Palestine Unit 3, Oblong Unit 4 and the Illinois Eastern Community Colleges Board - as well as other offices, including Robinson City Council and mayor, various village and township boards and the Robinson Public Library Board, are available at their respective offices.

In Unit 1, petitions will be available at the district office at the high school. Board members up for re-election are Bill Wyman, Bill Plew, Greg Roberts and Sherman Newlin.

In Unit 3, petitions will be available at the unit office on South Main. Board members whose terms expire next year are Gary Buser, Donald Wagoner, Corie Biggs and James Ellis. Voters will also elect someone to fill the remaining two years of Stephanie Guyer's term. Susan Hawkins has been filling the position since Guyer's resignation.

In Unit 4, petitions can be picked up at the district office at the elementary school. Board members whose terms expire next year are Ted Poehler, Randell Smith, Marianne Bilyew and Lisa Pinkston, who has completed the term of former board member Bruce Hosselton.

Some municipal and township positions will also be on the April ballot.
