Lighting a community's spark
What makes us tick as a community?

Two columns on this page today attack that question from several different angles. We hope they’re thought-provoking and inspiring.

John Dappert reviews the good qualities and resources we have that can be the tinder for “lighting a spark” to build and improve our communities for the future. He also talks about some of the challenges — what we could do that we haven’t done, or haven’t fully realized, thus far.

Rachelle Hollinshead passes along some information from an Ohio study that identifies the pieces of the puzzle — the things that make a good community. It’s interesting to apply these qualities to some of the things Dappert talks about in his column; in fact, we could apply them to just about anything we’re involved in, or would like to do, in our communities.

The main reason we’re devoting our Insight & Opinion page today to the subject of improving our communities is to get a conversation going, and maybe help light the spark Dappert talks about. Lots of good things are going on in Crawford County today, but there’s plenty of room for more.

Write us a letter, give us a call or offer feedback on our Web site, and we’ll share what you have to say on this page.
